we’re moving
we’ve got less than 2 weeks left to get everything together. we’ll be taking pics along the way.
the “things i will miss about the bay area” list would be way too long to write, but i’d love to hear other folks’ reasons they left their heart in s.f. (ahem, d & s are about to depart as well, and are headed for the quiet quiet. what will you miss most dears?)
for me, a couple include golden gate park, and how lush it was there the other day, and how easy to get to. and of course rainbow.
of course, there’s so much yummy we’ll be a part of in either portland or albuquerque. i was just thinking about that the other night, while sipping the new (1999) Frey Cabernet, having some good broccoli and seitan, and listening to A tell an engrossing story about third trimester bleeding while doing that incredible grrltrick of taking off her bra while keeping shirt on in one deft move. you rock, doc. that’s all i have to say.

I will miss living in John and JoE’s back yard even though it is cramped. I’ll also miss the particular way that it smells that I only notice real strong after coming back to the Bay Area from being away.

I’ll miss noodle-ing with y’all. I’ll miss the view from the roof of Zen Center, the view walking down Kearny toward North Beach in the morning, the stencils sprayed onto the sidewalks, and soy mochas I made myself. I’ll Annual Meetings of the Committee on Slack. Most of all I’ll the people. It sounds silly, but I’ve lived San Francisco for seven years and I enjoy knowing people, and knowing of people. (I know a great chiropractor, and the person who’s best at repairing shoes. I know who the best lawyers are in many areas of law. I know which organizations serve which communities and who can best serve you at your stage of eviction, HIV infection, or political development, or whatever. I know all the free clinics, and most of their hours. I know where to buy ladybugs and parasitic teawasps, and where to meet girls. I don’t need ladybugs and I go to bed too early to meet girls, but if I wanted I could have these.

I don’t get this Portland OR Albequerque stuff. Which is it??

well, it’s madness. it’s called the match (the portland or albuquerque thing, not a place to meet girls) and it’s the time when all med students all across the u.s. get an envelope telling them where they will be all at the same time, 12 noon eastern on the third thursday of march. students have ranked their choices of possible programs they’ve interviewed for and schools have ranked candidates, and a big ol computer runs them through a big ol program where they get matched to each other. if your’re first and second both want you, you’ve already signed a contract, you have to go to your first. it’s not like college where you can choose among acceptance letters. so on thurday morning, we find out if portland wants amanda, or if they ranked her too low, and we go to albuquerque (or who knows, one of the other 12 places she ranked, but that’s highly unlikely as she’s been told she’ll get her first or second choice.) it’s all kind of nerve-wracking. we’ll let you know when we find out…
