hate crimes at stanford med skool…
This years Queer Health Lecture Series, organized by LGBT-Meds was well planned and well attended, despite the fact that flyers promoting the events were torn down and ripped up, and recently, some hardcore homophobe took it upon themselves to go even further and spray paint red cross-outs over them. Amanda’s been campaigning against this crap, and to get the administrators off their butts to do something about it. fyi…
LGBT Meds, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Students and their allies at Stanford Medical School, exists to provide social support to LGBT students in the School of Medicine while serving as a link to faculty, residents, and staff at the medical center.
Of course, this isn’t the first time hate crimes have happened (and been resisted!) at Stanford. Latino and Asian students have recently been attacked. Though they did cover the anti-Asian graffiti, the Stanford Daily has chosen not to cover the recent hate crimes at the med school.

update: the situation has escalated. this time all the flyers that were placed in people’s boxes, and which students then put on their lockers, were torn down. we should be clear that this is happening with the tacit approval of the school’s administration, because no matter what they (dean pizzo et al) might SAY, they are allowing it to happen. it doesn’t actually matter who the perpatrators are when the school’s administration is not taking action. it’s the administration that is therefore to blame. there are so many constuctive actions they could take to ensure people’s safety and to increase awareness. they are simply refusing to take them, and that is, in effect, an anti-gay policy. it will be interesting to watch the reaction of progressive former students.
