For the very curious, here’s some deeper backstory:

Elihu Rosenblatt was born in Salt Lake City and raised in San Francisco. Eli has been organizing for human rights and social justice for more than 20 years, mostly in the San Francisco Bay Area and Portland, Oregon. He eventually homed in on prison issues and began freelance investigation work assisting attorneys with death penalty appeals. For many years, he was active with groups such as Food Not Bombs, the National Lawyer’s Guild, the Real Dragon Prison Project, the California Coalition for Battered Women in Prison, and Free Radio Berkeley. Eli edited the South End Press book, Criminal Injustice: Confronting the Prison Crisis. He also founded the Prison Activist Resource Center and was the founding coordinator of the National Radio Project’s Prison Desk. As a planner and organizer, Eli has coordinated the logistics for several conferences and gatherings in the Bay Area and elsewhere. As a consultant and contractor, Eli has provided custom installation of telephone and voicemail systems, installed PC and Mac networks and upgrades, organized facilitation and consensus workshops, and conducted strategic planning retreats for numerous grassroots non-profits. As a freelance investigator he has worked for attorneys and individuals in both California and Oregon providing specialized and professional investigative services. Eli lives with his partner and son in Portland, Oregon where he serves up periodic killer new recipes for family and friends, as well as a fairly decent game of racquetball. In Puddletown he’s also found work that fuels and sustains him as the “minister of oil” with Portland’s (now in remission) GoBiodiesel Cooperative and as storekeeper, produce-slinger, and editor-at-large at the fabulously organic Peoples Food Cooperative.
